Example: Itinerary for a 2-day Aurora Borealis Photo Tour in Iceland
Our driverguide will pick you up in Reykjavik on day 1 and you’ll either head to north or south Iceland, depending on weather conditions. During the day you’ll do some sightseeing and visit some of Iceland´s nature attractions on the way.
North Iceland:
If you travel north, places of interest may include the following: Hraunfossar waterfall that flows out of the lava, Barnafoss waterfall, scenic fjord Hvalfjordur, Deildartunguhver, the most powerful geothermal spring in Iceland and Europe, and Thingvellir (Þingvellir) National Park, where Iceland’s parliament was founded. You’ll also have an off-road adventure in the Super Jeep, for example by driving up onto Langjokull glacier, or travelling from Thingvellir National Park across the Kaldidalur mountain track. Depending on the weather, these are the hotels you might stay at:
Hotel Blonduos by Hunafloi Bay and the river Blanda;
Hotel Varmahlid in Skagafjordur, an area which is known for its fine breed of Icelandic horses.
South Iceland:
Travelling south you’ll find different but equally beautiful sites, for example: Seljalandsfoss, one of the taller waterfalls in Iceland, where a small path will take you behind the waterfall to enjoy a different view of it, Dyrholaey peninsula which forms an arc into the ocean and from where you can view Reynisdrangar, Hveragerdi greenhouse village, Skogafoss waterfall, Hekla volcano and the town of Vik i Myrdal. You’ll also go off-roading on a black sand beach and travel onto Myrdalsjokull glacier. These are examples of accommodation you might stay at in southern Iceland:
Hotel Fljotshlid in Smaratun, a family run countryside hotel just outside of Hvolsvollur;
Hotel Geirland in the town of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, just west of Vatnajokull glacier.

“An Awesome Experience”
We would highly recommend Nature Explorer to get the real Icelandic experience. This was more than just a holiday, it was an awesome experience. The knowledge imparted from Haukur ‘Hawk’, our Guide was excellent, professional, fun and memorable. We enjoyed locations not everyone gets to see. Hawk provided a personal service creating a customized itinerary for us to cover 4 days of touring. This included the Golden Circle, the South Shore, the Magnificent West and many locations in between. The Super-Jeep is comfortable and is fitted out with all of the proper safety equipment you may need whilst touring the Icelandic wilderness including GPS, VHF radio, shovel and on-board compressor. This level of safety is assuring when you are on top of a glacier or driving through an icy riverbed miles from civilisation.
With Hawk being a professional guide and prolific photographer, he brings extra to the experience, little gems that only his knowledge can add, the best times to be at locations, not only to miss the crowds but for the very best lighting to take that awe inspiring photo and how best to position yourself to see the full effect, be it waterfall, glacier, lake or tectonic plate. Hawk was great; he made our trip into an adventure and has given us many laughs along the way. All this and memories that will last a lifetime…
Thank you Hawk and Nature Explorer. We hope to return to Iceland again and will definitely be contacting Nature Explorer. Highly recommended.
