Half Day Incentive Tour Idea :
We pick you up on Super-Trucks with giant tires at your hotel in Reykjavik. We start by driving up rough track to the top of a small mountain with a great overview of the city before heading out of the city and into the lava fields where we explore the boreholes of a geothermal power plant. From the lava we drive a secret little track where we need to cross an unbridged river many times. It‘s fun off-roading and great for photos. We can stop at a little coffee shop or the the geothermal power plant for refreshments before continueing to a lava tube cave which we explore with helmets and lights. On the way back to Reykjavik we see the tradional way of drying fish out in the lava fields.
The drives are short but fun and very little time between ‚actions‘ so we can pack a lot into a few hours.
Two Day Incentive Tour Idea
Day 1: Reykjavik – Thorsmork Nature Reserve – South Shore
You will be picked up on Super-Trucks with giant tires at your hotel in Reykjavik. The scenery changes from lava fields and volcanoes to a flat agricultural area on the south shore of Iceland. We stop for lunch and refreshments in the town of Hvolsvollur before heading to Seljalandsfoss waterfall where we go for a short walk behind the waterfall and feel the refreshing spray and drizzle from one of Iceland´s highest waterfalls. From Seljalandsfoss the road changes to a 4×4 track and the last 30km into Thorsmork is one of greatest strips of 4×4 road you encounter – with unbrigded rivers and streams to cross in our strong and reliable Super Trucks. It´s a lot of fun.
We´ll take a photo stop by a glacier lagoon where you can get real close to the falling glacier and icebergs. Thorsmork is a wide valley named after Thor, the Viking God of Thunder. The rugged nature of green valleys, steep mountains, clear creeks and wild rivers make Thorsmork one of the country´s most popular hiking grounds. Surrounded by 3 glaciers, Myrdalsjokull, Eyjafjallajokull and Tindfjallajokull in the southern part of Iceland, it offers a great picturesque panorama and landscape.
On the way back from Thorsmork you have the opportunity to take a hour´s hike through small but magnificent canyons with a hidden waterfall at the end. After we head out of Thorsmork we continue along the South shore of Iceland and take some photo stops, all depending how much time we have left in the day. These stops could include Skogarfoss waterfall, Dyrholaey cliffs and black sand beach and the lava fields from Laki Craters. In the evening we will enjoy dinner at our hotel after a long and fun day. In winter, if the weather is clear, you have a chance to see the Northern Lights.
Accommodation: Hotel near Kirkjubaejarklaustur
Day 2: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon & Glacier Hike
After breakfast we continue eastwards along the south shore to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon where you will take boat ride among the icebergs in the glacier lagoon. It´s an incredibly scenic boat trip, to see the falling glacier tongue from Europe´s largest ice cap, surrounded by steep mountains on one side and the black sand beach on the other side. Quite often you can see seals swimming in the glacier lagoon and sunbathing on the icebergs. It´s no coincidence that many films have been filmed at this location, including parts of two James Bond movies. It´s a very picturesque place. In good weather you can see Iceland´s highest peak, Hvannadalshnjukur in Vatnajokull glacier, which is the largest glacier in the world outside the arctic regions. After visiting the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon it´s time to head back towards Reykjavik but the fun is far from over. At Myrdalsjokull glacier you will get a chance to hike on Iceland´s fourth largest glacier and explore the blue ice. Underneath the icecap is one of Iceland´s most active volcanoes, Katla. If there is time we can visit the black sand beach and another waterfall on the way back to Reykjavik where we will drop you off at your hotel in time for late dinner.
