Landmannalaugar
Super Jeep Day Tour from Reykjavik

Join us on an great geological exploration where the hot and cold meet in a great array of colors and beauty in one magnificent day tour to Landmannalaugar and Hekla volcano. Enjoy a soak in the natural geothermal pool, hike in the lava field and explore the hot springs and crater lakes. Landmannalaugar is a world class destination for landscape photographers and is the starting point for Iceland’s most popular hike, the Laugavegur trek.

Our tour starts by driving east out of Reykjavik through green country side before entering the rough mountain tracks by the foothills of the famous volcano Hekla. The landscape is shaped by centuries of volcanic activity, the most recent eruption in February 2000.
We drive a mountain track in the valley of Domadalur before we, powered by the Super Jeep, climb up to around 1000m above sea level where we enjoy a spectacular view of the Torfajokull glacier area, which is the largest high-temperature geothermal area in Iceland. Weather permitting we have a panorama of 8 glaciers.
Certain times of the year we can go as far as Hrafntinnusker (Obsidian Skerry). Under and around the icecap of Hrafntinnusker there is great number of hot springs constantly shaping the environment; melting snow, making ice caves and supplying water to the glacial rivers.
Many different eruptions and the geothermal heat as made all kinds of strange lava formations and colors. This is a deserted land of awesome beauty. We then lower again and take a moment to relax and let it all sink in while enjoying a bath in warm natural pool in Landmannalaugar.
On the way back we take a look at the explosion crater Ljotipollur before heading back to Reykjavik.

Q: What is the difference between this tour and the Thorsmork tour?
A: This tour covers a larger area, both sides of the volcano, so a bit more driving and shorter stops while the Thorsmork tour does not go to the south side but instead goes further into the Thorsmork valley where we have more time for short hikes or walks.
The tours are similar though so we don’t recommend booking both.

Q: Where do we have lunch?
A: Normally we stop at Hvolsvollur town and pick up sandwiches, snacks and drinks so that you are free to eat when ever hunger hits. Lunch is not included though – we would not dare to presume what you like for lunch.

The attention to detail and needs of their customers and the flexibility to adapt makes fir a spectacular Icelandic experience.

Amazing experience with outstanding guide

Took a private tour for 2 days with a guide from Nature Explorers. Was a truly outstanding experience. The SUV was spacious and comfortable. We had a great itinerary planned by Hawk. We visited an amazing series of sights throughout southern Iceland. In addition, our guide was not only knowledgeable about the sights of Iceland, but he was open about the people, culture and history of Iceland- bringing so much more to the trip than just a drive to see sights. It was truly a drive into the heart and soul of Iceland.
